ACCRA, Ghana, 21st September: President John Dramani Mahama has called on Ghanaians to draw inspiration from the vision and legacy of Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, as the country commemorates Founder’s Day.
In a message marking the occasion and celebrating Dr Nkrumah’s birthday, President Mahama described the late statesman as a visionary whose pursuit of liberty, Pan-African unity and self-reliance helped position Ghana as a beacon of hope on the global stage.
He said Dr Nkrumah’s declaration that “the black man is capable of managing his own affairs” continues to serve as a foundation for Ghana’s national pride.
“Today is our Founder’s Day, another opportunity for us to pause as a people and honour the immortal legacy of our nation’s founder, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah,” President Mahama stated.
According to him, while Ghanaians celebrate Dr Nkrumah’s achievements, the country must also recognise that the task of nation-building remains unfinished.
President Mahama therefore urged Ghanaians both at home and in the diaspora to contribute to the development of the country and support efforts to achieve the government’s Resetting Ghana Agenda.
“I charge us all to rise above division, embrace selfless patriotism, and work tirelessly toward economic freedom and social justice,” he said.
The President noted that just as Dr Nkrumah led the struggle for Ghana’s political independence, the current generation has a collective responsibility to build a prosperous, equitable and resilient nation.
“Just as Nkrumah fought for our political independence, we have a collective duty today to build a prosperous, equitable, and resilient Ghana,” President Mahama added.
He concluded by wishing Ghanaians a happy Founder’s Day and called for continued commitment to the ideals of nation-building.
“God bless our homeland, Ghana,” he said.
