Zabrama Community Appeals to President-Elect Mahama for Citizenship Recognition and Inclusion.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Zongo Caucus in Accra has paid a visit to the Zabrama community in the city to express gratitude for their unwavering support during the recent election campaign. During the campaign period, the Zabrama people showed immense generosity by offering financial assistance and other resources to the party, and they also voted massively for the NDC.

The visit was an opportunity for the NDC Zongo Caucus to personally thank the community for their contributions and support, which played a significant role in the party’s performance in the elections.

Speaking during the visit, an executive member of the Zongo Caucus acknowledged the challenges faced by the Zabrama people in Ghana. He highlighted that many members of the community, despite having lived in Ghana for decades and even being born in the country, are not officially recognized as citizens. This lack of recognition denies them access to critical identification documents such as passports, birth certificates, and Ghana Cards, and also prevents them from securing stable employment.

The executive member appealed to President-elect John Dramani Mahama to address these pressing issues when he assumes office. He urged the president-elect to advocate for the passage of a bill in Parliament that would grant the Zabrama people Ghanaian citizenship and ensure their inclusion in the national development agenda.

“This community has been a part of Ghana for so many years, contributing to its growth and prosperity. It is time for their status to be formally recognized so that they can live with dignity as Ghanaians,” he emphasized.

The Zabrama community expressed their gratitude for the visit and reiterated their hope that the NDC-led government would prioritize their concerns. The meeting ended with a renewed sense of partnership and a commitment to work together for the betterment of all marginalized groups in Ghana.

The Greater Accra Regional Zongo Caucus Coordinator, Ismaila Horoya Ali, has assured the Zabrama community in Accra that President-elect John Dramani Mahama will address their longstanding challenges when he assumes office. Speaking during a visit by the NDC Zongo Caucus to thank the community for their overwhelming support during the recent elections, Mr. Ali emphasized the party’s inclusive vision and commitment to marginalized groups.

He reminded the community that the NDC is a party for all, as stated by the President-elect, and their concerns would not be overlooked. “President-elect Mahama has already shown his commitment to inclusivity and fairness. Your challenges are on our radar, and we are confident that they will be addressed under his leadership,” he said.

Mr. Ali assured the Zabrama people that their grievances, particularly the lack of recognition as Ghanaian citizens, would be conveyed to the NDC leadership for prompt action. He promised that the party would take up the matter to ensure that it receives the attention it deserves.

“The next time we meet, I am confident that your concerns will be resolved, or at least significant progress would have been made. We stand with you, and we will not rest until these issues are addressed,” he affirmed.

The Zabrama people have faced numerous challenges, including being denied access to key identification documents such as passports, birth certificates, and Ghana Cards, which restrict their ability to work and fully integrate into society. Despite living in Ghana for decades and having generations born in the country, they remain unrecognized as citizens.

Mr. Ali’s assurance has rekindled hope among the Zabrama community, who expressed gratitude for the party’s continuous support and commitment to their cause. The visit ended with a strong sense of unity and optimism that the NDC, under President-elect Mahama, would champion the rights and welfare of all marginalized groups in Ghana.
