“Your Intentions May Be Right, but Your Actions Were Wrong” – Ashie Moore to NDC Tema Base

The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hon. Emmanuel Ashie Moore, has appealed to NDC supporters in Tema to exercise restraint and avoid actions that could undermine the party’s image. Addressing concerns raised by party members in Tema East, Tema West, and Tema Central, he acknowledged their grievances but cautioned that their methods were misguided.

This follows a recent protest by NDC members in the industrial hub of Tema. The demonstrators demanded the immediate resignation of managing directors and deputies of several state-owned enterprises (SOEs) allegedly appointed by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government. These officials were accused of favoritism, with claims that they exclusively employed NPP loyalists, leaving NDC supporters sidelined.

During their protest, the aggrieved members visited various SOEs, including the Tema Development Corporation (TDC), Cocobod, Valco, Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), and the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA). They locked some offices and tied red bands at entrances to signify their frustration.

The group argued that with the NDC now in government, it was only fair for party supporters to benefit from employment opportunities as part of their “share of the national cake.” Speaking to the media, the leader of the group, Mr. Butros Andy, highlighted past instances of job dismissals and alleged mistreatment of NDC members under previous NPP administrations.

Reacting to the events, Hon. Ashie Moore condemned the forceful actions taken by the group, emphasizing the need for order and adherence to the party’s chain of command. Speaking on Ahotor FM’s Adekye Mu Nsem with Kofi Wusu, he reminded members that every constituency has a chairman who reports to regional leadership. He stressed that any unauthorized actions could bring consequences for the leadership.

“I understand your frustrations and recognize your good intentions, but your approach was wrong. We have systems in place to address these issues. Always remember, any actions you take without leadership’s approval will ultimately reflect on your leaders, who will bear the consequences,” he stated.

Hon. Ashie Moore assured the Tema base that the NDC government was working strategically to address their concerns. He urged them to remain patient, united, and focused, emphasizing that the party’s broader goals should not be derailed by impulsive actions.
