Hon. Dr. Kingsley Nyarko, the Deputy Minister of Education and Member of Parliament for Kwadaso, has expressed concern over the upcoming strike planned by organized labor on October 10, which protests illegal mining (galamsey) and its consequences.
He warned that the strike could reduce government revenue collections, particularly at a time when the country is in need of funds for infrastructure projects such as roads.
Nyarko advised labor unions to engage with authorities instead of embarking on a strike with an indefinite end, which he believes would lead to destruction and yield no positive results for the country.
Speaking to the media, he emphasized that fighting galamsey is not as simple as it may seem and requires collective efforts from all sectors.
He urged authorities to address the concerns of organized labor in order to prevent the strike and ensure that workers’ issues are resolved.
