The National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, has strongly rebutted claims by former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, who described the NPP as a “fake” political party.
According to Nana Boakye, it is contradictory for Prof. Frimpong-Boateng to claim affiliation with a party he now labels as fake. He stressed that political parties must enforce discipline to survive, noting that individuals who become obstacles to the party’s progress must be dealt with decisively.
Using a war analogy, Nana Boakye stated that if he had the authority, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng would have already been removed from the party. However, since he lacks that power, the matter has been referred to the NPP’s National Executive Committee for appropriate action. He emphasized that maintaining discipline is far more important than tolerating indiscipline and what he described as unnecessary public attacks that damage the party’s image.
Nana Boakye further accused Prof. Frimpong-Boateng of failing woefully in his role as head of the fight against illegal mining (galamsey), despite being given significant responsibility by the government. He alleged that this failure contributed directly to the NPP’s electoral losses in several mining communities.
Additionally, the NPP National Organizer accused Prof. Frimpong-Boateng of being complicit in illegal mining activities alongside his son during his time in office. He claimed that allegations surrounding missing excavators became a major campaign issue exploited by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), further harming the NPP’s electoral fortunes.
The comments deepen internal tensions within the NPP as party leadership considers disciplinary action against the former minister.
