Yaw Preko Reflects on Ghana U-15’s Victory at the 2025 Mondialito Promise Tournament
Ghana U-15 coach Yaw Preko has shared his thoughts on the challenges faced by his team after they emerged victorious at the 2025 Mondialito Promise tournament.
The team secured a convincing 4-1 win over Maccabi Tel Aviv in the final, capping off an impressive run that saw them defeat Maccabi Petah Tikva 2-0 and Hapoel Tel Aviv 4-0.
In an interview with Sporty FM, Preko reflected on the journey, saying, “First, we had to get the players in shape. It wasn’t easy as I was called in at the last minute to pick the boys.
We had 25 players, but had to narrow it down to 18, which was tough given the talent.” Despite the challenges, Preko’s leadership and the team’s resilience played a crucial role in their triumph.
The Ghana U-15 team dominated the tournament, with goals from Robinho Gavi, James Ofori, Ebenezer Adjei, and Abdulai Aziz Issah contributing to their 4-1 victory in the final.
Although Maccabi pulled one back late, the team’s performance was impressive, showcasing their skills and determination.
Preko’s ability to prepare the team for the tournament was put to the test, given the short notice and challenging circumstances. However, his leadership and expertise helped the team overcome the obstacles and achieve success.
“After working with them for just a week, we prepared them for the tournament. It was a hectic trip to Tel Aviv, but once we arrived, the boys were psyched and ready to play.”
The Mondialito Promise tournament provided valuable experience for the Ghana U-15 team, exposing them to high-level competition and helping them develop their skills.
The team’s victory is a testament to their hard work and dedication, and Preko’s leadership played a significant role in their success.
