President John Dramani Mahama has announced that every 24-Hour Market being constructed across Ghana’s 261 constituencies will include space for a branch of the proposed Women’s Development Bank.
He said the initiative is intended to give women entrepreneurs easier access to financial services, savings facilities and affordable credit to expand their businesses.
President Mahama disclosed this during a question-and-answer session at the University for Business and Integrated Development Studies (UBIDS) in the Upper West Region.
According to him, preparations for the establishment of the Women’s Development Bank are far advanced, with Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang leading the process.
The President said the bank would provide an important financial support system for women engaged in businesses across the country.
He explained that women operating from the 24-Hour Markets would be able to save their earnings and access affordable credit to grow their businesses.
President Mahama said the initiative formed part of government’s broader strategy to support women entrepreneurs and expand economic opportunities under the 24-Hour Economy programme.
He said the government would soon officially launch the Women’s Development Bank.
The President stressed that the placement of branches within the 24-Hour Markets would bring financial services closer to women traders and reduce the barriers they often face in accessing affordable capital.
He said the government remained committed to creating an enabling environment for women to expand their businesses and contribute more significantly to Ghana’s economic growth.
