Grammy-winning Afrobeats star Wizkid has revealed that Fuji legend Wasiu Ayinde, also known as K1 De Ultimate, is his favorite musician.
The revelation came during a condolence visit to the Fuji maestro’s Ijebu Ode residence following the recent passing of his mother. While chatting with Wasiu Ayinde’s children, Wizkid was asked who his favorite musician was, aside from himself. Without hesitation, the superstar declared, “Wasiu Ayinde is my favorite artist in the universe.”
Wizkid praised the iconic Fuji musician for his impactful career, noting that Wasiu Ayinde has inspired multiple generations, including his own, through his music. This admiration highlights the enduring legacy of Wasiu Ayinde, whose career spans over four decades, cementing his role as a pioneer of the Fuji genre.
The bond between Wizkid and Wasiu Ayinde runs deep. The Fuji legend performed at the star-studded burial ceremony for Wizkid’s late mother in 2024. Further demonstrating his admiration, Wizkid sampled a performance by Wasiu Ayinde on the opening track of his recently released sixth album, Morayo.
During his chat with the Fuji icon’s children, Wizkid was also asked about his favorite car. He named his latest luxury acquisition, a McLaren 750S, valued at over ₦500 million.
Since returning to Nigeria in December 2024, Wizkid has made several public appearances, including surprise performances at Olamide’s Flytime Concert, the Nativeland Festival, and the Oando End of Year Party, which also featured Davido and Burna
