WINNEBA SPORTS COLLEGE TO BE AN INDEPENDENT SPORTS UNIVERSITY – NDC’s Dr. FRED AWAAH.

A communication member of the NDC manifesto on Sports Dr. Fred Awaah has reiterated his party’s position on the need to turn the Winneba sport college into a university.

In an interview with Mustapha Hadji Dean on Ahortor FM’s sports show dubbed ‘Ahortor Agokansie’ in Accra on Thursday, Dr. Awaah disclosed that his party when voted into power will not only upgrade the Winneba Sports College which was established by PNDCL 154, 1984 as part of curricular at the University of Education but also elevate it to an independent Sports University status.

According to Dr Awaah, talent alone is not enough, and his party led by the visionary John Dramani Mahama is committed to establish for the Sports University, campuses across the country to develop young sports individuals of all disciplines through science, medicine, and administration.

“Fortunately for me and you, we have a Sports College at Winneba so we will make is an Autonomous Sports University, stand-alone University with campuses all over the country”, he said.

“And it will be strictly for sports, diverse tract of sports; medicine, pysique,football, tennis, etc”.

”Existing facilities that are underutilized will be given a maximum utilization because it is a training ground for what, our students in the Sports College”, he concluded.

Concluding on this tangent, Dr Fred Awaah revealed the former President of Ghana prioritizes the sports sector among his top three sectors of the economy.

“Err, His Excellency John Dramani has stated that for his second coming his priority on a scale of 10 the Sports Ministry is among the top three”, he reaffirmed.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) successfully unveiled its 2024 manifesto dubbed “Resetting Ghana” at the University of Education, Winneba, on Saturday, August 24.

In the Manifesto, the Flagbearer of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama, bemoaned the incessant dwindling state of Ghana Sports in recent years and the need to fix it urgently. He stated that Ghana, once a force to reckon with in global sports, is currently a pale shadow of itself. From the heights of African football dominance to consistent appearances at World Cups amid impressive performances, now struggles to compete with relative minnows in the sport and has suffered embarrassing exits from recent international competitions

The party is hopeful it will emerge victorious in the December 7, general elections despite facing a fierce contest from the incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP)
