Elikem Eric Kevin Kwame Kotoko, the Second Deputy National Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), criticized the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) for not directly addressing Ernest Frimpong, the NPP parliamentary candidate for Amenfi East. Frimpong had been seen in a viral video urging small-scale miners to resist military officers who visit their sites.
The GAF had issued a general warning to the public, stating that calls for attacks on soldiers are a serious threat to the country’s security and stability. This statement came after the video surfaced, showing Mr. Frimpong encouraging miners to defy soldiers’ attempts to arrest them.
Mr. Frimpong, however, denied the accusations, claiming that his comments were taken out of context from a longer, two-hour discussion with the miners.
He asserted that he does not support illegal mining or the resistance of military personnel.
During an interview on Ahotor FM‘s morning show ‘Adekyee Mu Nsem‘, Elikem Kotoko expressed his dissatisfaction with the military’s general warning.
He argued that the GAF should have specifically addressed Mr. Frimpong and others seen in the video, rather than issuing a broad caution to the entire public.
Elikem Kotoko believes a direct response would have been more appropriate and effective in this situation.
