Why Benson Boone Apologized After His Show-Stopping Grammys Performance

Benson Boone wasn’t just a nominee for Best New Artist at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards—he also delivered one of the most talked-about moments of the night.

During his performance of Beautiful Things, Boone surprised the audience by stripping off his formal attire to reveal a tight, sparkly-blue jumpsuit that left little to the imagination. As he wrapped up his set, he made a noticeable adjustment to the crotch of his outfit before thanking the crowd for their enthusiastic applause. The move drew wide-eyed reactions from the audience and quickly went viral online.

After the performance, Boone addressed the moment on Instagram, posting a photo of himself with a playful apology.

“Sorry for adjusting my jumpsuit so aggressively on stage tonight—that thing was aggressively restricting in certain areas,” he wrote.

Earlier, in an interview with Access Hollywood, Boone described his Grammys experience as surreal.

“It is so psycho,” he said. “I went to do rehearsals, and just looking at the little name tags of who is going to be watching? … It’s the ultimate honor to be here tonight.”

While Boone’s performance won him praise and plenty of internet buzz, the Best New Artist award ultimately went to Chappell Roan.
