Why Benson Boone Apologized After His Grammys Performance

Benson Boone, a nominee for Best New Artist at the Grammys, ended up creating a viral moment during the ceremony. The “Beautiful Things” singer surprised the audience when he stripped off his formal attire to reveal a sparkly blue jumpsuit that was both tight and revealing.

Near the end of his performance, Boone adjusted the crotch of his jumpsuit before thanking the audience for their enthusiastic applause. The move left many in the audience raising their eyebrows.

The internet had plenty to say about the moment, and Boone later shared a photo on his Instagram story with an apology.

“Sorry for adjusting my jumpsuit so aggressively on stage tonight, that thing was aggressively restricting in certain areas,” he wrote.

Earlier, Boone had described his Grammys experience as “a fever dream.”

“It is so psycho,” he told Access Hollywood. “I went to rehearsals and just seeing the name tags of who’s going to be watching?…It’s the ultimate honor to be here tonight.”

While Boone received rave reviews for his performance (and some extra attention for his wardrobe adjustment), he ultimately lost the Best New Artist award to Chappell Roan.
