The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has demanded that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) clarify the status of the 2.1 million jobs they assert were created between 2017 and 2022.
During a campaign tour in the Northern Region, NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama at speaking at Yendi accused the NPP of fabricating figures to sway voters ahead of the upcoming elections.
He contended that despite the NPP’s claims of job creation, the actual unemployment rate has surged from 8% during the NDC’s administration to nearly 15% now.
John Mahama raised pointed questions about the existence of these purported jobs, noting that many locals remain unaware of any benefits in their communities.
He stated, “More graduates are unemployed now than at any time in our history. I ask you, where are the 2 million jobs? I want answers from Akufo-Addo and Bawumia.”
Emphasizing the urgent need for economic reform, Mr. Mahama called for the establishment of a 24-hour economy to foster greater job opportunities for Ghanaians.
He expressed unwavering confidence that the NDC would reclaim power in the December 7 elections, pledging that job creation would be a central focus of their agenda.
“The NDC is committed to empowering young people,” Mr. Mahama declared. “We will not be deceived any longer. Our plan is to create jobs for the youth, reversing the current trend of rising unemployment. Under our government, the unemployment rate was 8%. Today, under the NPP, it has escalated to almost 15%. Yet, they claim to have created over 2 million jobs.” He said.
With the elections approaching, John Mahama’s remarks underscore a critical debate on job creation and economic management that could shape the political landscape in Ghana.
