What on earth will make Akufo-Addo appoint his secretary as ambassador six months into an election – Atik Mohammed asks

Former General Secretary of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Atik Mohammed, has questioned President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s decision to appoint his Executive Secretary, Nana Bediatuo Asante, as an ambassador-at-large.

Mohammed criticized the timing and necessity of the appointment, describing it as insensitive to the needs and concerns of the Ghanaian populace.

Speaking in a media interview, Mohammed expressed his bewilderment at the president’s decision, especially given the proximity to the 2024 elections

“What on earth will make the president appoint his executive secretary as ambassador-at-large six months into an election?” he questioned.

Mohammed argued that the president’s actions demonstrate a lack of responsiveness to the citizens of Ghana.

“If he is a listening president, he wouldn’t have done what he has done. I begin to feel that the president is exhibiting some insensitivity to Ghanaians. Six months into an election, what at all is happening in the world that you need an ambassador-at-large?” he stated.

A ceremony held at the Jubilee House on Monday, June 24, 2024, announced the appointment of Bediatuo, who has been serving as President Akufo-Addo’s Executive Secretary since 2017 as ambassador at large.
