We’ve lost trust in EC because NPP folks have been packed there – Mohammed Samba.

Mr. Mohammed Samba, a National Communication Team Member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed concerns about the credibility of Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC).

Speaking on the Property Day Break show with Anigye Hene Abeiku Yamoah, Mr. Samba, also known as Royal Samba, stated that Ghanaians have lost trust in the EC’s work due to the perceived influence of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) within the Commission.

Mr. Samba acknowledged that while every Ghanaian is eligible to work at the EC, the 1992 Constitution specifies that individuals affiliated with any political party, including the NDC or NPP, are not permitted to work at the EC.

He highlighted recent controversies involving the EC, including a decision that prohibited political party agents from being present at voter transfer registration centers, which led to significant tension between the major political parties.

The opposition NDC viewed this decision as indicative of the EC’s bias and alleged collusion with the NPP, fearing it could lead to election rigging.

Royal Samba argued that the EC’s past actions have given the opposition legitimate reasons to be apprehensive about the Commission’s impartiality.
