We’re working with Roads Ministry to improve access to tourist sites – GTA

The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has announced an engagement with the Ministry of Roads and Highways to improve road networks leading to tourist sites in the country.

GTA said this in response to complaints about the deplorable state of the roads by tourists, especially in the rainy season.

Speaking to journalists, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Akwasi Agyeman, assured of efforts to improve tourism infrastructure in the coming months.

“We still have a lot of work to do, especially engagements with other agencies on tourism infrastructure. The roads to some of the tourist sites especially when it comes to a period like this when it is a rainy season, we get a lot of complaints.

“People wanting to visit tourist sites and then the rains and then the road network, so we are working with the Ministry of Roads through our ministry to make sure that at least the last mile to some of the tourist sites are improved.”

Mr. Agyeman further disclosed that almost 600,000 tourists visited Ghana in the first half of 2024.

“This promises to be a good year for our sector because the first half numbers were quite good. We were almost at 600,000 [tourists visiting] for the first half of the year.”
