We’re showing up for the three-day Democratic Hub protest – Barker Vormawor

Oliver Barker-Vormawor, a Constitutional Rights and Policy Strategy Adviser, has reiterated that members of the Democratic Hub will turn up in numbers for their three-day protest.

The Democratic Hub has served notice to protest against the government’s failure to protect water bodies in the country.

The group is also calling for the resignation of the Minister for Lands and Natural Resource, Abu Jinapor among other requests.

In an interview with the media in Accra, Osagyefo Oliver Barker-Vormawor highlighted how he and his people gave the police more time to prepare and prioritize their protest but were asked to change the date they set.

Barker-Vormawor stated, “The law requires informing the police at least five days prior to a protest, what we did is that we informed the police three months before the protest.

The Adviser disclosed that two months after the protest, the police asked them to change the date, which they refused.

“We said no, we’re not going to change the date. The humorous thing is that those who have gone to procure for themselves an injunction are there and they have a copy. We have not been served”.

“Subsequently, we’ve issued a statement, that in fact we’re going to show up and we’re going to respect the police order act by putting in place processes for the planned demonstration this weekend”.

Barker-Vormawor stressed that unconstitutional injunctions will not be respected. “No court is entitled to stop a protest and anything that stops an issue is void as it stands”.

“We’re clear that whatever the case may be, we’re going to go ahead and do the protest, whatever they do and if the only thing they have is arrest, so be it”.

Mr. Barker-Vormawor also emphasized that the protest would come on as planned “We’re showing up and turning up for a protest”.
