We Will Prepare Thoroughly for the Rest of the Season – Medeama Coach Ibrahim Tanko

Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko has reiterated his side’s commitment to careful preparation as they turn their attention to the remaining fixtures of the ongoing Ghana Premier League season.

The Tarkwa-based outfit currently sits top of the league table with 43 points from 21 matches and remains firmly in control of the title race despite a recent setback.

Medeama’s impressive 17-game unbeaten run came to an end last weekend after a 2-1 defeat to Nations FC at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex. However, their championship ambitions remain strong, with a healthy seven-point advantage over second-placed Bibiani Gold Stars.

“I always say we are not invincible,” Tanko admitted. “We have our strengths and our weaknesses, so we are going to prepare very well and face the rest of the games.”

Beyond the league campaign, Tanko also celebrated Medeama’s progress in the MTN FA Cup, after his side secured a place in the quarter-finals following a dramatic 4-2 penalty shootout victory over FC Samartex 1996. The encounter ended goalless after regulation time, setting the stage for a tense shootout at the TNA Park.

The former Black Stars assistant coach also provided a positive update on the squad’s injury situation, revealing that key players are gradually returning to full fitness after recent concerns threatened to disrupt the team’s momentum.

Midfielder Manuel Mantey and winger Emma have both resumed full training, with Emma delivering an encouraging performance in a recent friendly match.

“Both are training very well. Mantey is back, and Emma has also returned,” Tanko explained. “Emma came back about two weeks ago, but we didn’t want to rush him. He played in a friendly match yesterday and did very well, so I believe he is fully back.”

Medeama will look to consolidate their position at the summit of the table when they host Aduana FC at the TNA Park in their Matchday 22 fixture this weekend, as they continue their push for domestic silverware.
