“We will not allow anybody to put pressure on us to sack a coach” – GFA ExCo member, Nana Oduro Sarfo

A member of the Ghana Football Association’s Executive Council, Nana Oduro Sarfo has expressed strongly the FA will not to kowtow to any pressure from Ghanaians to sack any head coach of the Black Stars.

His comments come after the FA faced incessant backlash over recent poor performance of the senior team which failed for the first time in two decades to make an African Cup of Nations (Afcon2025 in Morocco).
As part of resetting the technical team of the Black Stars, the Ghana FA has axed Joseph Laumann from the assistants cu
Head Coach Otto Addo, leading the Black Stars had a disastrous run of AFCON qualifiers campaign failing to win a game from six matches against the likes of Niger, Sudan and Angola last year.

Sarfo, who assumed the Chief Executive Officer role at Berekum Chelsea in 2021 made reference to the FA having to pay for damages when Serbian Milovan Rajevac was prematurely sacked after Black Stars’ lackluster AFCON show in Cameroon.

“When Milo was sacked along that line, if you’ve listened to our tone, we were saying we’ve seen progression of him and they [Ghanaians] says no, sack him,”  he told Guide Sports.

“So pressure was put on us to sack the coach and we did. This time, we will not allow anybody to put pressure on us to sack a coach.

“We’ve seen coaches who have failed in one, two, and done well in their third [year] and we gave this young man [Otto Addo] a job to do.

This reaffirms Oduro Sarfo’s unwavering support for the unpopular coach, Otto Addo from day one of his appointment.

Someone was also saying that he[Otto Addo] is not a top coach. Who is a top coach? A coach who has qualified the national team for the World Cup is not a top coach?” Sarfo quizzed Accra-based Asempa FM on January 1,2025.

Ghana, currently tied at the top of Group I in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers with Comoros, both on nine points is preparing for the resumption of the qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar in March.
