Dean of the School of Performing Arts of the University of Ghana, Legon, Professor Kofi Agyekum populary known as Opanyin Agyekum has called on the Electoral Commission and its stakeholders to pre-plan contingency measures for Ghana’s elections.
According to Opanyin Agyekum, the covid-19 pandemic has shown that there is the possibility of the country’s election being interrupted, thus the framers of the constitution should take a cue from the current situation.
Professor Aygekum opined that, the New Patriotic Party(NPP) and the National Democratic Congress(NDC) position over the compilation of new voters register, whether election or no election, should be to the national interest in spite of the outbreak of the COVID 19.
“Whether we hold elections or no elections, there should be peace…and when we finish voting it should be possible for people to go to work the following day, and if per chance the elections doesn’t come off, people should still be able to go to work the next day or days ahead. So this should be our preparation for the six months ahead of us”. He said.
