“We Vote for Positive Change, Not Hardship”: GFL’s Abraham Koomson Urges NDC to Prioritize Citizens

Tema, Ghana – The Secretary-General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), Abraham Koomson, has urged the newly elected National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to focus on implementing policies that improve the lives of Ghanaians, despite criticisms from detractors.

Speaking on Ahotor FM’s Yepe Ahunu show with host Nana Dogbe, Mr. Koomson emphasized that elections are not mere rituals but opportunities to effect positive changes in citizens’ lives.

“We don’t vote just for the sake of voting; we vote for positive changes that will improve our lives. I pray that the President will consult, listen to his people, and ensure that every decision made contributes to the development of this country. That’s all we want,” he stated.

Criticism of the Previous Government

Abraham Koomson expressed disappointment with the outgoing New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, describing their administration as insensitive and detrimental to the welfare of Ghanaians.

“Ghanaians have endured hardships over the last eight years under the NPP government. It is only by the grace of God that we have been able to survive their wickedness,” he said.

He added that the NPP’s policies inflicted suffering on citizens and confidently asserted that they would not return to power.

“God will never allow them to resurface. I’m telling you, they can’t. Their insensitivity has been too much for Ghanaians to bear,” Mr. Koomson declared.

On the ORAL Committee and Boycotts

Addressing the controversy surrounding the Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL) committee, Abraham Koomson dismissed criticisms from the Minority in Parliament, who described the committee’s establishment as unconstitutional.

Led by the Member of Parliament for Suame, John Darko, the Minority caucus argued that existing constitutionally mandated bodies already have the authority to investigate alleged corruption and wrongdoing, making the ORAL committee redundant and illegal.

However, Abraham Koomson strongly disagreed with the Minority’s position, warning that any former government appointee who refuses to comply with the ORAL committee’s summons could face serious consequences, including citizen arrests.

“The NDC government shouldn’t allow them to disregard the committee. Anyone who rejects an invitation from the ORAL team should know they risk being subjected to a citizen’s arrest. They must comply,” he insisted.

Call for Policies Benefiting Citizens

Abraham Koomson reiterated his call for the NDC government to ignore detractors and prioritize policies that bring relief and progress to Ghanaians.

“I don’t have preferences for this or that. What matters to me is that the government implements policies that genuinely help the people. We vote to see positive changes, not to endure hardships,” he concluded.
