Head coach of Ghana’s Black Queens, Kim Lars Bjorkegren, has shared his thoughts on his team’s 1-0 narrow Loss to Senegal’s Teranga Lionesses in a friendly match held on Tuesday.
Reflecting on the tightly contested encounter, Bjorkegren suggested that the game had all the makings of a stalemate due to the scarcity of scoring opportunities.
“In the end, it was a close game, not so many chances for either team. Normally it’s a 0-0 game, but they scored and there is nothing I can do about it, so it’s just congratulations to Senegal,” Bjorkegren remarked after the match. His comments highlight the fine margins that decided the outcome, with Senegal capitalizing on a rare chance to secure the victory.
The coach also pointed to the significant changes made to the squad as a factor in their performance. “We changed half of the team between those two games. Of course, many players hadn’t played together before, so of course when you put almost a new starting eleven together, that can be a bit difficult because football is about natural relations,” he explained. The lack of familiarity among players, he suggested, may have disrupted the team’s cohesion on the pitch.
Despite the loss, Bjorkegren remained focused on the bigger picture, identifying the need for improvement in the attacking third. He expressed optimism about refining the team’s offensive strategies as they gear up for upcoming challenges.
“We need to sharpen our attacking play,” he admitted, signaling his intent to address these shortcomings in future training sessions.
The Black Queens will look to build on this experience as they continue their preparations for future competitions, with Bjorkegren determined to foster better chemistry and potency in the squad.
