Residents of Wassa Domama in the Wassa East District of the Western Region are calling on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the Western Regional Police Commander, and the Local Council of Chiefs to urgently intervene and restore peace in their community.
The residents say they have been living in fear and insecurity since the installation of a new chief, alleging that some groups of people have been attacking residents during funerals and other social gatherings.
According to them, the situation has created fear among the people, making it difficult for residents to freely participate in community activities. They further claim that even when someone is in danger, some members of the youth are now afraid to intervene for fear of being attacked.
The residents are therefore appealing to the relevant authorities to take immediate action to end the alleged attacks and ensure the safety of everyone in the community.
In an interview, the Chief of Wassa Domama, Nana Tweneboah Ntow II, confirmed that his subjects are also living in fear.
He disclosed that some groups of people had attacked his subjects, adding that he had officially reported the matter to the Western Regional Police Commander. However, he said no action had been taken so far.
Nana Tweneboah Ntow II is therefore appealing to the police to investigate the matter, arrest those responsible, and ensure they face the law.
He believes that swift police intervention will help restore confidence among residents and prevent further attacks.
Touching on illegal mining, the chief revealed that galamsey activities are ongoing in Wassa Domama.
He, however, appealed to the Western Regional Office of the Minerals Commission to visit the community and educate residents on responsible and regulated small-scale mining practices.
According to him, if properly regulated, small-scale mining activities could contribute to the development of the community while also generating revenue for the government.
The chief and residents are calling for urgent intervention from the police, traditional authorities, and other relevant institutions to address the security concerns and ensure lasting peace in Wassa Domama.
