We Have Averted Looming Dumsor; Fuel Now Flows To Thermal Plants – President Mahama Applauds Jinapor

President John Dramani Mahama has revealed that his government has successfully prevented a potential power disruption due to scheduled maintenance work on the West African Gas Pipeline (WAPCO).

According to Mr. Mahama, the Akufo-Addo-led government failed to ensure a smooth running of the energy sector by arranging enough fuel to run the thermal plants, a situation that put Ghana at risk of a looming power crisis.

He made these revelations during a swearing-in ceremony of six ministers on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, after they had been vetted and approved by Parliament.

President John Mahama assured Ghanaians that proactive measures had been taken to ensure uninterrupted energy supply across the country.

Mr. Mahama said, “The previous government did not work to ensure the smooth running of the energy sector by neglecting to arrange enough fuel to power our thermal plants.”

He explained that maintenance on the gas pipeline, a critical source of fuel for thermal plants in the eastern enclave, posed a serious risk to the country’s energy supply.

However, his administration acted swiftly to avert the unpalatable situation.

“Through determined efforts, I can report that we have now averted the looming threat of power outages and have begun delivering fuel to the thermal plants in the east in advance of the shutdown of the West African Gas Pipeline,” President Mahama stated.

He further applauded John Jinapor, Ghana’s new Minister for Energy and Green Transition, for his diligence and swift action in resolving the power challenges.

President Mahama awaits the approval of the second batch of ministers whose names he had presented to Parliament to be vetted.

He, however, remains resolute on running a lean government, hence, assuring Ghanaians that he is bent on keeping to his promise of keeping his ministers at 60 as stated during the campaign era.

“As the ministers are approved by Parliament and sworn in, I will proceed to appoint deputy ministers for some ministries, ensuring the total number of ministers remains at 60, as I promised the people of Ghana,
