Hon. A.B.A Fuseini, MP for Sagnarigu, has asserted that Parliament does not take directives from the Supreme Court or its members concerning parliamentary business.
He emphasized that Parliament will await the Speaker’s next decision regarding the current situation.
Fuseini pointed out that the Speaker has already declared four seats vacant, which strengthens the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s claim to the majority in Parliament.
He stated that since it is Parliament—not the Supreme Court—that conducts business on the chamber’s floor, MPs do not take instructions from the Court about who forms the majority or minority.
Speaking to the media during the New Patriotic Party (NPP) walkout, Fuseini reiterated that the Speaker’s previous rulings had solidified the NDC’s majority status, justifying their current occupation of the majority seats.
He likened the situation to waiting for the “soup” to be ready before enjoying their “fufu,” indicating that the NDC is patiently awaiting the Speaker’s final declaration.
Meanwhile, the NPP MPs, led by Alexander Afenyo-Markin, staged a walkout, declaring they would not participate in what they perceive as chaos caused by their NDC colleagues.
