We can’t stay in business anymore without increase in transport fares – C-DAG

The outcry from the private transport union has resurfaced due to a significant increase in the prices of petroleum products at the pumps, severely impacting the profits of private commercial drivers in the country.

Paa Willie, the National Chairman of the Concern Drivers Association of Ghana (C-DAG), expressed concern about the challenging economic realities facing the transport sector. He emphasized the escalating costs of spare parts and other equipment associated with the transport business, necessitating a corresponding increase in transport fares to sustain profitability.

Speaking on the Adekyee Mu Nesm morning show on Ahotor 92.3 FM, hosted by Alex Nana Dogbey in Accra, Paa Willie called for government intervention to facilitate dialogue and address the pressing issues affecting the transport industry.

In response to the prevailing challenges, the association issued a joint press statement announcing an increase in transport fares, effective from Saturday, April 13, 2024:

Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana-C-DAG/Transport Operators of Ghana
Joint Press Statement
NOTICE OF TRANSPORT FARE INCREMENT

The recent increase in the price of petrol has compelled us to adjust transport fares as follows:

A 15% increment for short-distance or intracity transport.
A 20% increment for intercity or long-journey transport.
A 15% increment for taxi transport.
An increase in short-distance taxi hire services fare from GHC 10.00 to GHC 15.00.
We urge all Ghanaians to take note of the increment and cooperate with transport operators. Thank you.
