Members of the Ghana Union Traders Association (GUTA) in Accra have closed their shops in protest of the current economic situation affecting their businesses
The closing of shops began today October 19, 2022 and it’s expected to end on Monday, October 24, 2022
Speaking this morning on ‘Adekye Mu Nsem’ hosted by Citizen Kofi Owusu airborne on Ahotor FM, the president for GUTA, Joseph Obeng indicated this is to highlight the challenges their businesses are encountering and a signal to the government to understand things are getting out of hand
He said, the cedi depreciation against the dollar, high policy rate, high inflation and high tax rates are collapsing their businesses
He appealed to the trading community to collaborate so that the needed results will be achieved
He however appealed to the government to salvage the situation
This action follows a similar action undertaken last week in Kumasi by members of GUTA
