“We Are Going Together with the Czech Republic Because We Want to Go Far” — President Mahama Champions Deeper Economic Ties

Accra, Ghana – President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, has reaffirmed Ghana’s readiness to collaborate with the Czech Republic to drive sustainable economic growth and development.

Addressing the Czech-Ghana Business Cooperation Seminar at the Mövenpick Hotel on Wednesday, April 8, President Mahama emphasized that deepening bilateral ties is essential for long-term progress.

He illustrated this point with a powerful African proverb:

“As the African proverb aptly reminds us, and I quote it, it says, if you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, then go together.

We want to go far, and we will do so with our Czech colleagues,” he said.

He noted that the Business Cooperation Seminar itself exemplified the spirit of collaboration Ghana seeks to foster with its international partners.

“It is in this spirit of collaboration that we gather here today to forge partnerships that will benefit generations to come,” he stated.

President Mahama further highlighted the potential for mutual gain, citing the Czech Republic’s industrial and technological prowess and Ghana’s strategic location and youthful population.

“The Czech Republic, with its remarkable industrial heritage, technological expertise, and innovative spirit, and Ghana, with our abundant natural resources, our strategic location, and dynamic young population, stand to gain immensely from deepening our economic ties and our cooperation,” he added.

On his part, the President of the Czech Republic, H.E. Petr Pavel, stressed the role of leadership in opening doors for economic progress.

“We politicians have it easier. We open the door if we have goodwill, and we create conditions. The rest is up to you. And I believe that both President Mahama and myself, we have the goodwill to open the door wide and to create the best possible conditions for you to go forward,” he remarked.

H.E. Petr Pavel is in Ghana for a three-day state visit from Tuesday, April 8 to Thursday, April 10, 2025 — a visit that underscores growing diplomatic and economic ties between the two nations.
