The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) says they are committed to making sure the expectations of their consumers are met
This was made known by the Deputy Managing Director in charge of Finance and Administration, Dr Reme Pouro at a stakeholders engagement while delivering a key note address at Tema in the Greater Accra Region on Thursday, September 29, 2022
He indicated, GWCL made an appeal of an average tariff increase of 300% early this year but upon further engagements with the PURC, only 21% was approved
“We made appeal of an average tariff increase of 300% but in the wisdom of PURC, 21% was what was approved which means it has implications that will also affect our operations”
He said, the implication is that they may not be able to do all the things probably stakeholders may be expecting but they are committed in making sure they meet the expectations of consumers although they were not granted what they requested
Dr Pouro spoke about the cost components in their operations and the high cost in the purchase of chemicals to treat water due to the instability of the cedi against the dollar
He urged stakeholders to do everything possible to conserve the water that are being pumped into their homes
“We must do everything possible to do away with wastage” he said
