War In The Middle East: GFL Boss Demands UN Action After Missile Attack on Ghanaian Peacekeepers

TEMA, Ghana, 7 March: The Secretary-General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), Abraham Koomson, has called on the United Nations to take urgent action to restore peace in the Middle East following a missile attack on a Ghanaian peacekeeping position in southern Lebanon.

The attack, confirmed by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), occurred on Friday evening when the Ghanaian Battalion Headquarters serving under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) came under two missile strikes between 17:45 and 17:52 local time.

The strikes reportedly left some soldiers critically injured.

Speaking on Ahotor FM’s Yepe Ahunu show on Saturday, March 7, Mr. Koomson described the incident as catastrophic and expressed deep concern about the safety of Ghanaian peacekeepers deployed in conflict zones.

He urged the United Nations to intervene decisively to prevent further escalation of violence in the region.

According to him, the international body must take stronger measures against parties responsible for attacks on peacekeeping forces.

“This situation is worrying, and the United Nations must act now. Ghana alone cannot solve the problem. The UN must crack the whip on those responsible,” he said.

The attack comes at a time when tensions in the Middle East continue to rise amid the expanding confrontation involving Israel, Iran, and allied forces across the region.

Southern Lebanon has become increasingly volatile due to ongoing exchanges between the Israel Defense Forces and the Iran-backed Lebanese militant group Hezbollah.

Meanwhile, the Government of Ghana has raised the incident at the United Nations through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, calling for stronger protection for peacekeepers operating in conflict zones.
