Black Queens forward Alice Kusi has emphasised that team success remains her top priority as Ghana continue their campaign at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Kusi says she is ready to play in any position assigned to her by the technical team if it can help the Black Queens achieve their objectives at the tournament.
The forward has played an important role in Ghana’s campaign, with the Black Queens securing a place in the quarter-finals following a 1-1 draw with Mali in their final Group D fixture.
Evelyn Badu put Ghana ahead before Mali fought back through Kadidiatou Diabate. The draw was enough for the Black Queens to progress to the knockout stage.
Speaking after the game, Kusi underlined her commitment to the collective cause, stressing that she has no problem sacrificing her preferred position for the benefit of the team.
“I’m here as a team player, not as an individual. So far as anything that makes the team happy, I won’t stick to my position. As long as we are doing it as a team, wherever I play, wherever I find myself, it doesn’t matter.”
Kusi believes every member of the squad must be willing to make sacrifices for the national team as Ghana chase continental glory and a place at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
“I have to make sure that we are all on the same page, lifting the flag of Ghana.”
The Black Queens finished second in Group D behind Cameroon and will now face Malawi in the quarter-finals on Sunday, August 9, in Rabat.
The crucial encounter offers Ghana an opportunity to move one step closer to the semi-finals while also strengthening their bid to secure qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
