The Black Queens head coach Nora Häuptle had her contract with Ghana Football Association officially expired on December 31, 2024, AhotorSports can confirm.
Nora Häuptle, turned down the Ghana job and has potentially been linked with Zambia’s women’s national team top role where she is expected to sign a two-year contract, per Zambian journalist Augustine Mukoka.
The Swiss’s journey in women’s football took a pivotal turn when she was appointed head coach of the Black Queens in 2023, qualifying for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) and clinching the 2023 WAFU Zone B Women’s Cup.
Sources close to AhotorSports revealed the Ghana Football Association engaged the Swiss for contract renewal but there were no headways in the negotiations.
Joysports also reported that the GFA offered Häuptle a $6,000 monthly salary and a $5,000 bonus in preparation for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AWCON) in Morocco in June 2025. However, she declined, reportedly seeking $12,000 instead.
There were growing frustrations for Nora and to her dismay, was the GFA’s inability to secure $40,000 for two friendly matches against Tunisia and Senegal last month.
Reports from Zambia indicate The Swiss appointment was approved by the Executive Committee of the Zambia FA on Saturday, awaiting Nora’s official signature.
Having qualified to the continental showpiece in Morocco later this year, the Black Queens are expected to begin preparations ahead of the tournament but technically do not have a coach to lead them.
The Ghana Football Association is yet to react to Nora’s situation and as matter of urgency expected to set the path clear as to who is the next coach to take charge of the Queens.
Black Queens have been drawn into Group C for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) tournament alongside defending Champions South Africa, Mali and Tanzania.
A lot is stake for Ghana as the Black Queens will hope not to only reach the semi-final of the tournament but also a pathway to the 2027 FIFA Wowen’s World Cup which Ghana last reached in 2007.
The 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations will run from July 5 to July 26, 2025, in Morocco.
