Dr. Anthony Sorkpah, a communication team member of NDC Insight, has urged Ghanaians to vote out the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming December polls if they wish to see an end to illegal mining (galamsey).
He accused the NPP government of using galamsey as political propaganda while the country’s natural resources are being destroyed.
In an interview with Ahotor news, Dr. Sorkpah questioned why the government has not utilized its available resources to stop illegal mining if, as claimed, the opposition is responsible for importing mining equipment.
He expressed concern over the dangerous chemicals used in galamsey, which could have long-term harmful effects on current and future generations.
He also criticized the Ghana Police Service for targeting democracy hub protesters instead of focusing on the real culprits—the illegal miners wreaking havoc on the nation’s forests, lands, and water bodies.
Dr. Sorkpah believes that further demonstrations are unnecessary, as the government appears unwilling to listen to citizens’ pleas, suggesting that the best course of action is to vote them out in the upcoming elections.
He emphasized that a change in government would clarify whether the NDC is truly involved in illegal mining, as alleged by the NPP in their campaign narratives.
With only two months left before the election, Dr. Sorkpah expressed optimism that Ghanaians will use their votes to demand accountability and change.
