The Brazilian came alive in the Champions League final, where he scored the second goal in Madrid’s 2-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund, sealing the club’s record-extending 15th European title.
This marks Vinicius’ first win of the FIFA award since its inception in 2016, and he is the only Brazilian to claim the prize to date. Neymar came closest previously, finishing third in 2017.
The award from August 2023 to August 2024 – was decided by a mix of public vote, one journalist from each country and the captain and manager of each national team. Each group’s vote counted for 25%.
