Vice President Urges Private Sector to Back Free Sanitary Pad Initiative.

Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has appealed to the private sector to actively support the government’s Free Sanitary Pad Initiative, stressing that the programme is crucial to keeping girls in school, safeguarding their dignity, and unlocking their full potential.

She made the call during a meeting with the leadership of Sunda Group, manufacturers of Softcare Sanitary Pads, where she commended the company for its support of the initiative and encouraged other businesses to follow suit.

“Girls’ natural biological functions should never be a barrier to their education or limit their future opportunities,” the Vice President stated, reaffirming the government’s strong commitment to the programme.
She disclosed that the initiative has been allocated GHS 292.4 million in the 2026 national budget, underscoring its status as a key national priority.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang further highlighted the importance of strong partnerships between government and industry in driving inclusive and sustainable growth. She urged Sunda Group to expand its value chain by increasing the use of locally sourced raw materials, creating more employment opportunities, and contributing to industrial growth under the government’s 24-Hour Economy policy.

Additionally, the Vice President called on manufacturers to intensify public education on the proper disposal of sanitary pads and diapers, noting that improved hygiene practices and environmental protection must go hand in hand with industrial development and responsible production.
