Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has called on female public officers across the country to rise above bias and stereotypes and position themselves as strong, strategic leaders within the public sector.
Speaking at the opening of the Conference for Women in Leadership in the Public Sector, organized by the Public Service Commission at the Labadi Beach Hotel, the Vice President urged women to embrace confidence, competence and purpose in their professional journeys.
She encouraged participants to act with boldness, clarity and determination in the discharge of their duties, stressing that leadership in public service requires resilience, discipline and a strong sense of responsibility.According to her, women must build strong professional networks, seek mentorship and actively support one another to create pathways for advancement and sustained impact.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang emphasized the need for women to continuously sharpen their strategic expertise and excel in their respective fields. She noted that excellence and preparedness remain key tools for overcoming systemic barriers and gaining recognition in leadership spaces traditionally dominated by men.
The Vice President also called on women in public service to see themselves as indispensable contributors to national development.She said Ghana’s growth and transformation depend on inclusive leadership that fully utilizes the talents and perspectives of women across all sectors of governance.
She urged female public officers to stand fearless in pursuing leadership roles and to remain focused on delivering results that strengthen public institutions and improve service delivery.She added that empowering women in the public sector is not only a matter of equity but also a strategic necessity for effective governance and sustainable national development.
