Vice President Strengthens Ghana–Egypt Ties in Productive Diplomatic Engagement

Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has held a productive and forward-looking meeting with the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt, H.E. Wael Fathy Ahmed, reaffirming the commitment of both nations to deepen bilateral cooperation and expand diplomatic relations.

The engagement highlighted the long-standing and historic ties between Ghana and Egypt, with both parties expressing renewed determination to strengthen collaboration across critical sectors, including trade, education, technology, and cultural exchange. Professor Opoku-Agyemang assured the Ambassador of Government’s unwavering support, emphasizing Ghana’s commitment to broadening the scope of cooperation for the mutual benefit of their peoples.

“Ghana remains committed to working closely with Egypt to broaden the scope of our cooperation and deliver tangible benefits to our people,” the Vice President stated.

She also conveyed Ghana’s appreciation to the Government and people of Egypt for the warm reception accorded to President John Dramani Mahama during his recent visit to Cairo for the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM). Describing the museum as a global cultural landmark, she noted that it represents not only a proud achievement for Egypt but also a significant contribution to world heritage.

The discussions further underscored shared values of unity, mutual respect, and solidarity in confronting global challenges. Professor Opoku-Agyemang stressed the importance of investing in youth development, highlighting the need to equip young people with relevant skills and opportunities to drive innovation and sustainable growth.

“Our young people hold immense promise, and it is our duty to create pathways for skills development, innovation, and meaningful opportunity,” she said.

Ambassador Wael Fathy Ahmed, in response, commended Ghana for its enduring friendship and reiterated Egypt’s commitment to enhancing cooperation in areas that will promote shared progress and socio-economic development.

In addressing global shifts and emerging challenges, the Vice President emphasized the need for stronger partnerships in training, technology transfer, and knowledge exchange, noting that strategic cooperation is vital in navigating today’s rapidly changing world.
