Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has called for a collective commitment to responsible small-scale mining, urging stakeholders to move beyond rhetoric and focus on tangible actions that drive sustainable change.
Speaking at the Conference on Small-Scale Mining in Ghana: A Dialogue on Restoring a Culture of Proper Mining,
The Vice President emphasized the need for all sectors, including Parliament, to support ongoing efforts to reclaim degraded lands and promote environmentally friendly mining practices.
“These are commendable steps to reclaim degraded lands, but they require the full support of Parliament and all of us. As we embark on this journey, I urge each one of you to approach it with a shared sense of responsibility and commitment,” she stated.
Her Excellency Opoku-Agyemang stressed the importance of ensuring that small-scale mining becomes a vehicle for economic empowerment and job creation rather than a source of environmental destruction.
“Our discussions today must look beyond rhetoric to tangible actions that will drive change in our respective constituencies. We must work together to ensure that small-scale mining is not synonymous with destruction but rather an avenue for employment, job creation, and sustainable development,” she added.
