The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting gender equity across state institutions and the broader public service.
According to her, the Presidency recognises the critical role women play in national development and remains determined to support inclusive policies that empower women and promote leadership opportunities for them at all levels of governance.

Speaking at the International Women’s Day Symposium held under the theme “Give to Gain,” the Vice President emphasised that creating an inclusive and equitable environment within public institutions is essential for national progress. She noted that when women are given equal opportunities to lead and contribute, organisations become more effective, governance improves, and communities thrive.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang stressed that empowering women goes beyond strengthening workplaces; it also enhances the nation’s governance systems and accelerates socio-economic growth.
She added that gender equality is not only a moral responsibility but also a strategic necessity for sustainable development.
She used the occasion to commend women working at the Presidency as well as those across the public service for their professionalism, dedication, and invaluable contributions to the country’s development. Their commitment and hard work, she said, continue to inspire many young girls across Ghana who look up to them as role models and future leaders.
The Vice President further indicated that the journey towards achieving gender equality requires collective effort, resilience, and determination.
She explained that both men and women must work together to dismantle barriers, challenge stereotypes, and create opportunities that allow everyone to thrive regardless of gender.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang concluded by urging women to recognise their shared responsibility in shaping workplaces where equity, respect, dignity, and equal opportunities are realities for all.
She also encouraged young women and girls to remain confident, pursue leadership roles, and contribute meaningfully to the country’s development, assuring them that the government remains committed to supporting policies that promote fairness, empowerment, and inclusion across all sectors of society.
