The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has announced that the Ghana Education Service will review existing school discipline frameworks as part of efforts to address student misconduct at an early stage and prevent situations from escalating.

According to the Vice President, the review will be undertaken in close consultation with parents, teachers and educational resource persons to ensure that the revised framework promotes responsible behaviour while safeguarding the welfare of students.
She explained that the intention of the initiative is not to punish for its own sake, but rather to nurture responsible citizens who understand both their freedoms and the responsibilities that come with them.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang made the announcement when she served as the Distinguished Guest of Honour at the 69th President’s Independence Day Awards Ceremony held at the Accra International Conference Centre.
Addressing the young award recipients, the Vice President congratulated them for their academic excellence and urged them to remain disciplined and focused as they enter what she described as an important phase of their lives.
She noted that the new stage would come with greater freedom, wider exposure and, in some cases, stronger temptations. However, she encouraged the students to remain committed to their goals and aspirations.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang further advised the award winners to choose their friends carefully, respect school authorities and adhere to school regulations. She also urged them to remain cautious in their decisions and actions.
“Excellence is not only about how well you perform in the classroom,” she stated. “It is also about how you conduct yourself when no one is watching.”
She reminded the students that the nation has high expectations of them and encouraged them to strive not only for academic success but also to serve as role models for their peers and younger generations.
The Vice President emphasized that Ghana’s future depends on disciplined, responsible and well-educated young people who are ready to contribute positively to national development
