Veteran Nigerian singer and actress Onyeka Onwenu at the age of 72. The reports indicate that she collapsed after her performance at Stella Okoli’s birthday celebration on Tuesday, July 30, 2024.
Following her collapse, Onwenu was immediately taken to Reddington Hospital in Lagos, but tragically, she didn’t survive.
Eyewitnesses at the event shared their shock and sadness, expressing that Onwenu had just finished an energetic performance before collapsing at her seat.
The sudden turn of events left everyone in disbelief. Born on January 31, 1952, in Imo State, Nigeria, Onwenu built a remarkable career as a singer and actress, earning the nickname “Elegant Stallion” for her graceful presence and powerful vocals.
She was known for addressing social issues through her music and making significant contributions to the entertainment industry as well as advocating for women’s rights and social justice.
Onwenu will be deeply missed, and her legacy as an iconic figure in the Nigerian entertainment industry will always be remembered.
