Veep Pushes for Transparent, Value-Driven Partnerships in Talks With Clean-Energy Firm.

Vice President of the Republic of Ghana Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has held strategic discussions with Portage Energy, a global clean-energy company specialising in sustainable waste management and waste-to-energy technologies, including the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), as government deepens efforts to address Ghana’s persistent waste challenges.

The high-level meeting centred on Portage Energy’s advanced technology solutions for converting waste into energy and cleaner fuel alternatives. Company officials presented models capable of supporting Ghana’s environmental goals while creating economic value through sustainable waste conversion.

Addressing the delegation, the Vice President reaffirmed government’s unwavering commitment to development partnerships that genuinely align with national interests. She emphasised that the current economic and policy environment demands collaborations driven by openness, responsibility, and shared value—not lofty promises without results.

“In the economic and political climate we find ourselves in today, Ghana is not looking for relationships built on slogans or promises that do not translate into real results,” she stated. “We want partnerships that are truly transparent, partnerships that respect our national priorities, and partnerships that ensure that the Ghanaian people are the ultimate beneficiaries.”

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang underscored the national urgency of responsible waste management, noting its links to public health, environmental sustainability, industrial growth, and urban development.

“Waste management is directly tied to public health, environmental sustainability, industrial development, and even the attractiveness of our cities,” she said. “Any partnership we enter must strengthen our national systems and contribute meaningfully to long-term development. We want solutions that do not merely look good on paper but deliver measurable outcomes.”

She welcomed the direction of the initial dialogue, describing it as a promising step toward Ghana’s clean-energy aspirations.

“Our engagement today is an opportunity to explore what is possible when innovation aligns with national interest,” the Vice President added. “We look forward to more detailed interactions as we examine how best to build a collaboration that is sustainable, technically sound, and beneficial to the people of Ghana.”

Portage Energy officials expressed readiness to deepen technical discussions, commending government’s insistence on transparent, value-driven cooperation.
