The National Chairman of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Nana Nimako Bresiama, has appealed to commuters to always board vehicles from designated main transport stations to ensure their safety and avoid exploitation.
According to him, all registered commercial vehicles—including trotros and buses—operate on approved routes and destinations under recognized transport unions. Boarding vehicles from main stations, he stressed, protects passengers from unnecessary fare hikes, short-loading, and other unauthorized practices.
Nana Nimako Bresiama explained that vehicles which pick passengers along the roadside without operating from approved stations are often not affiliated with any transport union. Such “floating vehicles,” he noted, usually charge arbitrary fares and operate illegally, in violation of transport regulations.
He therefore urged the public to avoid boarding vehicles by the roadside and instead use approved stations, adding that doing so will promote order, fairness in fare charges, and overall commuter safety.
