USA line up Ghana friendly on July 1
The United States national football team is lining up a friendly against the Black Stars of Ghana as part of preparations for their CONCACAF Gold Cup campaign which begins on July 8.
According to sources, the game will take place on July 1 at the Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Connecticut.
Prior to that loss, the Black Stars were undefeated in their two previous meetings winning by the same 2-1 score at the respective 2006 and 2010 FIFA World Cups.
In 2006, Ghana progressed from Group E alongside Italy at the expense of the Americans courtesy a late penalty by Stephen Appiah after Clint Dempsey had cancelled-out Haminu Dramani’s early strike.
In 2010, Asamoah Gyan’s settled the Round of 16 tie in extra-time after Landon Donovan equalised Kevin-Prince Boateng’s goal.
The Americans will also play a friendly against Venezuela on June 3 at the Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah.
The USA will host the CONCACAF Gold Cup ( the biennial international men’s football championship of the North, Central American and Caribbean)between July 7-26.
