The Upper West Regional Police Command has secured the conviction of 47-year-old Kwame Ti-Zaaekuu by the Lawra Circuit Court for incest and threats of death following a successful prosecution.
According to the Police, investigations began after a complaint was lodged against the convict, leading to the discovery that he had sexually abused his 17-year-old biological daughter, a Junior High School student, over an extended period. The victim was also allegedly threatened with death to prevent her from disclosing the abuse to anyone.
In a statement, the Police said the Lawra District Police conducted investigations and successfully prosecuted the case. On Friday, July 24, 2026, the Lawra Circuit Court, presided over by His Honour Stanley Adjei, found Ti-Zaaekuu guilty of incest and threats of death.
The court sentenced him to 20 years’ imprisonment for incest and 10 years for threats of death, with both sentences to run concurrently in hard labour.
The court also directed the Department of Social Welfare in Lawra to provide counselling and psychosocial support to the survivor.
The Upper West Regional Police Command commended the investigators and prosecutors for their professionalism and efforts, which led to the successful conviction.
The Command has further urged the public to promptly report cases of sexual and domestic abuse to the Police to enable appropriate action to be taken.
