Ghana’s Black Stars will take on Trinidad and Tobago’s Soca Warriors at the Gtech Community Stadium in London on Saturday, May 31, 2025, in their second match of the 2025 Unity Cup—3rd Place battle.
This encounter marks the first-ever meeting between the two sides, adding intrigue to a competitive quadrilateral tournament. Both teams are coming off opening losses and will be eager to secure their first points in the competition.
Ghana, ranked 76th in the world, have struggled recently, managing only two wins in their last nine matches across all competitions, with four losses.
In their Unity Cup opener earlier this week, Ghana fell to 2-1 to Nigeria. The Super Eagles took an early lead through Cyriel Dessers in the 14th minute, doubled their advantage with a Razak Simpson own goal, and despite a second-half response from Solomon Thomas-Asante, Ghana couldn’t complete a comeback under coach Otto Addo.
Meanwhile, Trinidad and Tobago, ranked 100th, have shown more resilience, winning three of their last five games, though they’ve lost two of their last four. In their Unity Cup debut, they suffered a 3-2 defeat to Jamaica.
Trailing 2-0 after 53 minutes, the Soca Warriors mounted a spirited comeback, scoring twice in 15 minutes to level the match, only to concede a stoppage-time penalty converted by Richard King.
Notably, Trinidad have been prolific, scoring in each of their last six games, netting 14 goals in total.
With Ghana’s Otto Addo using the tournament to test fringe and debutant players ahead of September’s World Cup qualifiers, the Black Stars are focused on building momentum.
However, Trinidad’s consistent goal-scoring threat could exploit Ghana’s defensive frailties, evident in their loss to Nigeria.
Despite the 24-place ranking gap, Trinidad’s attacking form suggests a closely contested match, likely with goals on both sides, as Ghana aim to leverage their squad depth to edge out a determined Soca Warriors side.
