Union Berlin forward Ilyas Ansah rules out Ghana’s 2026 World Cup involvement

Union Berlin forward Ilyas Ansah has indicated that he will not represent Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while leaving the door open for a future decision on his international allegiance.

Speaking about his national team prospects, the striker explained that his immediate focus remains on upcoming youth international commitments.

“After the U21 European Championship, I’ll look into it next year and make a decision. As things stand, I won’t be going to the World Cup with Ghana,” Ansah stated.

The 21-year-old attacker has been widely linked with Ghana due to his eligibility, with the Ghana Football Association closely monitoring his progress as part of a broader strategy targeting dual-national talents.

Ansah’s comments provide clarity on his short-term plans but stop short of a definitive long-term commitment, suggesting that a final decision regarding his international future could come after the UEFA European Under-21 Championship in June.

The forward has been developing steadily in Germany, earning attention for his pace, movement, and attacking versatility — qualities that have placed him on the radar of multiple national team setups.

For Ghana, Ansah remains one of several dual-national players being assessed as the federation continues efforts to strengthen the Black Stars squad for future competitions.
