Mr. Edmond Moukala, the UNESCO Country Representative to Ghana, has paid a courtesy visit to Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, at his office in Accra. The meeting served as an opportunity to discuss UNESCO’s ongoing initiatives in Ghana and explore areas for enhanced collaboration.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and shared with the Ghana News Agency, the discussions centred on UNESCO’s efforts to promote Ghana’s cultural and historical heritage through innovative projects.
During the meeting, Mr. Moukala highlighted UNESCO’s role in supporting Ghana to develop a cutting-edge virtual reality experience for the country’s iconic forts and castles. This project aims to enhance the visitor experience by providing immersive digital storytelling, showcasing the historical significance of these UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
He also outlined initiatives involving young Ghanaian programmers and performers, emphasizing UNESCO’s commitment to nurturing local talent. Mr. Moukala spoke enthusiastically about “The Black Star Experience,” an initiative aligned with UNESCO’s mission, which focuses on celebrating Ghana’s cultural identity and promoting tourism through innovative means.
Additionally, he introduced the Mansa Musa World Show, an African musical theatre production supported by UNESCO. The production follows a group of young heroes and heroines as they journey back in time to uncover the lost treasures of Mansa Musa, the legendary ruler of the Mali Empire, often regarded as one of the richest individuals in history.
In response, Mr. Ablakwa expressed profound gratitude to UNESCO for its unwavering support in advancing Ghana’s cultural and educational diplomacy. He assured Mr. Moukala of his readiness to collaborate with the Ministers of Education and Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts to maximize the benefits of UNESCO’s programs for Ghana.
The Foreign Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to preserving both tangible and intangible cultural heritage, emphasizing the alignment of Ghana’s developmental agenda with UNESCO’s initiatives.
The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement to deepen the partnership between Ghana and UNESCO, reaffirming the shared commitment to fostering cultural, educational, and historical preservation in the country.
