A planned concert by South African Grammy Award-winning singer Tyla in Nigeria has sparked controversy on social media, with some Nigerians, including activist VeryDarkMan, calling for the event to be cancelled over concerns linked to the 2024 Miss Universe Nigeria pageant.
The planned performance has generated widespread debate online after VeryDarkMan and several social media users urged event organisers to reconsider hosting the concert.
The backlash follows public criticism surrounding the 2024 Miss Universe Nigeria pageant, which some social media users claim unfairly affected Chidimma Adetshina before she later went on to represent another country at the Miss Universe competition.
In videos and social media posts, VeryDarkMan warned that Tyla’s concert could face opposition if it goes ahead, arguing that many Nigerians remain unhappy over the controversy.
The issue has drawn mixed reactions online. While some users support calls for a boycott, others argue that Tyla should not be held responsible for matters unrelated to her music career and should be allowed to perform.
As of now, neither Tyla nor the concert organisers have publicly responded to the calls for the event to be cancelled. There has also been no official announcement indicating any changes to the planned concert.
