Tyla emerged victorious at the BET Awards 2024, taking home the title of Best New Artist.
The South African singer’s rise to global fame began with her debut single, ‘Water’, which garnered widespread acclaim and even earned her the prestigious Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance in February 2024.
At just 22 years old, Tyla became the youngest African artist to receive a Grammy. In a tight competition, she clinched the award for Best New Artist, triumphing over fellow African talents such as Ayra Starr, 4Batz, Bossman Dlow, Fridayy, October London, and Sexyy Red.
During her acceptance speech, Tyla expressed her gratitude and dedicated her win to Africa, acknowledging the extraordinary talents that came before her.
Additionally, she secured the award for ‘Best International Act’, surpassing competitors including Asake, Ayra Starr, and Aya Nakamura.
Notably, Burna Boy, Tems, and Seyi Vibes also received nominations in categories yet to be announced.
